Abstrak

This study investigates the influence of social media usage on the tendency of oversharing among students majoring in Communication and Islamic Broadcasting (KPI). In the current digital era, social media has become an inseparable part of the daily lives of university students, yet its intensive use raises concerns regarding privacy boundaries and self-disclosure behaviours. This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method to gather data from KPI students. The variables measured include the intensity, duration, and platforms of social media usage (as the independent variable) and the level of oversharing tendency, defined as the inappropriate or excessive revelation of personal information (as the dependent variable). The results revealed that the majority of students (70-80% on average) demonstrate low to moderate self-disclosure levels on social media. Specific findings show that 92.9% of respondents do not share sensitive experiences, 78.6% do not post emotional conditions, and 78.6% are not motivated by the need for attention or social recognition. Interestingly, 85.7% of respondents have experienced regret after posting personal information, indicating learning from negative experiences. This research contributes to understanding the dynamics of self-disclosure in the digital space and serves as a critical reflection for students regarding responsible and ethical social media utilization.

Penelitian ini meneliti pengaruh penggunaan media sosial terhadap kecenderungan oversharing di kalangan mahasiswa jurusan Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam (KPI). Di era digital saat ini, media sosial telah menjadi bagian yang tidak terpisahkan dari kehidupan sehari-hari mahasiswa, namun penggunaannya yang intensif menimbulkan kekhawatiran mengenai batasan privasi dan perilaku pengungkapan diri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif menggunakan metode survei untuk mengumpulkan data dari mahasiswa KPI. Variabel yang diukur meliputi intensitas, durasi, dan platform penggunaan media sosial (sebagai variabel independen) dan tingkat kecenderungan berbagi berlebihan, yang didefinisikan sebagai pengungkapan informasi pribadi yang tidak pantas atau berlebihan (sebagai variabel dependen). Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa mayoritas siswa (rata-rata 70-80%) menunjukkan tingkat pengungkapan diri yang rendah hingga sedang di media sosial. Temuan spesifik menunjukkan bahwa 92,9% responden tidak berbagi pengalaman sensitif, 78,6% tidak memposting kondisi emosional, dan 78,6% tidak termotivasi oleh kebutuhan akan perhatian atau pengakuan sosial. Menariknya, 85,7% responden mengalami penyesalan setelah memposting informasi pribadi, yang menunjukkan belajar dari pengalaman negatif. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam memahami dinamika pengungkapan diri di ruang digital dan berfungsi sebagai refleksi kritis bagi mahasiswa mengenai pemanfaatan media sosial yang bertanggung jawab dan etis.
